We really missed seeing Chester the donkey this year to lead the procession of Cranleigh Churches from the Common on Palm Sunday.

As the Rector said, “Chester has gone on holiday to Spring Harvest”.  He performed there in Minehead with the Wintershall Drama Team.

So we hope to see him back next Easter.

Kate, the rector’s wife took sympathy with all the children here and made a splendid replica of Chester for them to carry back to St Nicolas and place in front of the altar.

Sunday 23 April

On St George’s Day everyone was invited over to the Rectory Garden to celebrate.  It was actually to celebrate our Rector’s 60th Birthday from  the previous Friday.  Most of the congregation, joined by others, made their way across following the 10.00am Sunday Service to be welcomed by Kate and Roy.  There everyone enjoyed a glass of wine with them and wishing Roy every blessing, having survived four years in the Cranleigh Parish.

Surrey Brass was founded in 2001 by John Goodwin and aims to develop the fine tradition of ensemble brass performance originated by the internationally famed Philp Jones Brass Ensemble, by widening the audience for brass ensemble music, enlarging the repertoire, and providing enjoyment for everyone.

They play a wide, innovative and entertaining repertoire to a high standard, incorporating fresh influences from diverse musical sources including Classical, Jazz, Film and World Music.  Their talented musicians are some of the best in the county and they are particularly keen to encourage young brass players.  Every year they perform at least one concert involving them.  Hopefully some will join us in future.
