BRONZE TO SILVER AWARD, Our journey as an Eco Church continues…

We’ve been busy as a Church Community to undertake and stimulate ourselves with new Eco Challenges as we progress (we hope!) towards our Silver award. Following Clergy and PCC approval of and commitment to our action plan, we have been developing and putting in place really exciting plans.

We have a set of welcome slides, appearing very soon,  which present lifestyle challenges to our congregation at our weekly services including how we get to our services, where we purchase our food and what we do with waste food,  a pledge to reduce our energy consumption and join Creationcare.org.uk individually to help us manage our personal stewardship of God’s creation in our homes and lives. We have signed up as a church to this scheme to encourage us all on our journeys and to collectively review our success.

We are participating as a church leadership team in an audit of our carbon footprint in the autumn and that will assist our planning,  whereby we aspire to reduce that footprint to zero over time.

Look out for the Eco Corner in the church which we are working on, where we will have books to loan and our brand new Eco Journal to record our activities, observations , photos, eco pledges and so on of our congregation and visitors, our plant stall at our Rectory Fete and hear news of our St Nicolas and Eco Church presence at the upcoming Cranleigh Farming and Food Festival.

There’s more for the Autumn and to tie in with our Heritage Day in September, but for now, let me know what you think of our progress and how you might like to become involved as an Eco Champion !
